ACTIVIST
Here are a few of the organizations and movements that Cathy actively builds and supports.
Cathy has been building organizations from the ground-up since she was 12 years old, when she started a radical, alternative school. Among these collaborations, she is a proud member of the East Side Institute and the All Stars Project, the Taos Institute, and more. Here are some of the communities she supports.
Global Play Brigade
Cathy is Founder of the Global Play Brigade (GPB), a volunteer community of play and performance activists, artists, improvisers, educators, and therapists from over 50 countries. They came together in response to the global pandemic and the inequitable state of the world — connecting people across borders with free online play and emotional support workshops. Learn more about the GPB by watching the Introduction to the The Global Play Brigade.
East Side Institute
The East Side Institute is an international center for the study of social therapeutics and performance activism — bringing human and community development to the forefront of culture change and social transformation, and promoting alternative and radically humanizing approaches to psychology, education and community building.
Freestyle Love Supreme Academy
The Freestyle Love Academy was founded in 2018 with the mission of fostering diverse creative voices using improvisation and freestyle rap. FLS Academy is deeply committed to creating and maintaining an environment in which all individuals are treated with dignity and respect.
All Stars Project
The All Stars Project is a 501(c)3 national nonprofit founded in 1981 that uses a performance based approach to help tens of thousands of inner-city youth and their families create success in their lives.
The Taos Institute
The Taos Institute’s® mission is to bring together scholars and practitioners concerned with the social processes essential for the construction of reason, knowledge, and human value, and their application in relational, collaborative and appreciative practices around the world.
Applied Improvisation Network
The Applied Improvisation Network exemplifies that creativity happens collaboratively by using the principle of short turn taking between individuals in the group. In an atmosphere of positive purpose, everyone is encouraged to contribute. Fear, suspicion and anxiety are replaced with focus, creativity and sense of collaboration. This approach allows individuals, groups and organisations to release their creative potential and overtime increase their confidence.
Institute for New Music
Society at large is often harsh and unkind to new creations, new talent. The mission of the Institute for New Music is to strengthen, inspire and ennoble individuals by their contact with newly created art. They aim to aid in the discovery and the defense of the new and strive to give artists a supportive and nurturing platform and foundation to develop their creative ideas.
